Domenicali spoke to Vettel about criticism: ‘Positive push’

Domenicali spoke to Vettel about criticism: "Positive boost"

Sebastian Vettel is a big critic of Formula 1. The German thinks there should be a faster switch to more sustainability within the sport. F1 boss Stefano Domenicali responds to Vettel’s verbal attacks.

“I don’t want to see this as criticism. I see it as a positive push from someone who is seriously thinking about the future. I have spoken with him about this countless times, and for me it is constructive criticism,” Domenicali tells F1 insiders.

Recently, Vettel criticized the new 2026 engine regulations, which he said could be introduced sooner. The sport will switch from fossil to sustainable fuels in that year, but the Aston Martin driver believes the sport has enough money and resources to do something with it already. Still, he will have to be patient, because according to Domenicali, a faster switch is not realistic.

Timetable for developments

The Italian contradicts Vettel’s words by indicating that sustainability already plays a decisive role within the sport, but he appreciates Vettel’s criticism. “If Seb reminds us to do even more and do it even better, I will take that seriously.”

However, Vettel’s perfect F1 world is hardly achievable because the sport has to take into account different interests. “In Formula 1, there are big manufacturers who demand a certain timetable for their developments.” A sudden switch would not be feasible for the teams who need to make adjustments to the cars in order to run on renewable fuels. In addition, rumors have been circulating for some time that Audi and Porsche will make their entry into F1, something that is possible precisely because of the new engine regulations.
